Ex-Celtic star Craig Burley blasts Old Firm semi-final

Former Celtic and Scotland midfielder Craig Burley has derided the quality of Sunday's Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final and insists he will not be tuning in to watch.

Burley currently works as an analyst for ESPN over in the United States. With the game due for a 12noon kick-off time, it would mean Burley would have to rise early from his bed in order to watch, though he has little intention of doing so.

With Rangers in the second tier and Celtic led by under-fire coach Ronny Deila, Burley believes there will be zero quality on offer for the casual fan to enjoy.

Talking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “Why would I watch it? Why would I watch a bang-average Rangers team that’s won the second level in Scotland playing against one of the worst Celtic teams in recent memory?

“Celtic and Rangers fans will watch it, I get that. But if you’re an outsider, why would you?”

Burley played for Celtic for two-and-a-half seasons, helping the club to stop Rangers winning 10-in-a-row by securing the league title in 1998.

He is known nowadays for his punditry work. His style is to be overly negative about everything.
