ONE TO WATCH - Kevin Strootman

PSV Eindhoven’s midfielder Strootman has been a rumoured target for Manchester United, who are still trying to fill a Roy Keane-sized hole in midfield - 22-year-old Strootman may yet be that man, though he doesn’t quite yet have the tigerish tackling (to put it mildly) of the Irishman.

EURO FACTS

Co-hosts Ukraine are the only nation making their debut at this European Championship.

MEMORABLE GOAL OF EUROS PAST

With Denmark 2 - 0 down and heading for a group stage exit, keeper Peter Schmeichel charged upfield to assist in the attack on the Croatia goal.

Denmark were caught in possession though and Croatia, spotting Schmeichel off his line, saw a chance to kill off the game.

A long ball upfield found Suker who took it down immaculately and advanced towards goal.

Schmeichel was caught in two minds and instead of retreating for the safety of his line advanced towards Suker.
