England v Scotland: Invite for Paul Gascoigne

PAUL Gascoigne has been invited to attend England’s game against Scotland this evening, but it is unclear whether he will attend.

Seventeen years ago, Gascoigne scored one of the most memorable England goals of all time in the 2-0 win over the Scots at Euro 96.

The Football Association sent an invite to Gascoigne last month, but he is yet to respond and the former England midfielder’s advisers are unsure whether he will turn up.

Gascoigne has battled alcoholism since he retired from professional football and, six months ago, he was flown to a clinic in the United States to try to rid him of the problem.

He has since encountered difficulties, however, and last week he received a £1,000 fine for assaulting a railway security guard and being drunk and disorderly.
