Celtic have landed a £1.25 million windfall by selling Emilio Izaguirre to Saudi Arabia.

The long-serving full back has agreed a two-year deal with Al-Fayha and the Hoops have raked in a tidy transfer fee for the defender.

Izaguirre, 31, has been in Glasgow since 2010 and has amassed six titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

But he’s opted for a lucrative pay day in the Gulf to play for the Al Majma’ah-based club and will join them in their Austrian training camp this week.

Al-Fayha won the Saudi First Division title this year and won promotion to the top flight.

And Izaguirre has opted to move to the ambitious club just a month after insisting he wanted to see out his career in Scotland.

He said: “The Celtic manager has told me he wants to keep me.

“My wish is to stay for three more years with my family and then go to the MLS for two years and finish my career for four or five years at Motagua in Honduras.

“I have won many trophies and been treated well in Glasgow. God willing, that’s where my future will be.”

But the left back - who was Kieran Tierney’s understudy - has now decided to go for a big pay day in the Middle East.
