Edinburgh University 1-3 Leith Athletic

Leith ATHLETIC set up a League Cup quarter-final clash with Craigroyston after a comprehensive 3-1 win over Edinburgh University at Peffermill Playing Fields.

The first goal of the game came in the 11th minute when a corner on the right from Kenny Hall was met by Neil Lowson and his header powered beyond Mark Tait. Edinburgh Uni made things tougher on themselves in the 24th minute when a through ball from Jack Combe was collected by Jason Stevens. He forced himself into the box before being pulled back by Joe Price-Wright. Referee John Weir pointed to the spot and sent Price-Wright for an early
shower. Combe took the spot kick, but it was well saved by Tait.

The home side started the second half the better team despite being at a numerical disadvantage and could have drawn level just five minutes into the second half.

With just five minutes of normal time remaining, Leith Athletic looked to have sealed all three points. Stevens picked up the ball on the touchline and was brought down by Cumming.
Euan Campbell stepped up to take the penalty and calmly slotted it home to make it 2-0.

Edinburgh didn’t give up and won a penalty, which Calum Murray blasted high into the top corner of the net to make it 2-1 in the 91st minute, but Leith scored just one minute later, Jason Stevens tapping in after a defensive mix up.
