East Stirlingshire 2 - 2 Montrose: Montrose move up after topsy-turvy draw

MONTROSE inched back into a play-off spot last night as they drew with East Stirlingshire at Ochilview in a game where both sides held and lost the lead.

Scorers: East Stirlingshire: Turner (26, 45); Montrose: Young (13), Wood (63)

The Gable Endies, who played so spiritedly against Rangers at the weekend before losing 4-2, took the lead on 13 minutes. Shire goalkeeper Grant Hay got his hand to a powerful Lloyd Young shot from eight yards but the ball spun high into the net.

The hosts got back on level terms when Jamie McKernon released his skipper Kevin Turner and he netted from 16 yards out with 26 minutes played.

Shire then took the lead right on half-time when Turner pounced on a Steven Jackson cross that was flicked on by Michael Herd. But they were pegged back on 63 minutes when Terry Masson had a shot charged down and the ball ran along the six-yard line for Garry Wood to sweep home.

Hay had to be alert to stop a Masson drive as Montrose made a late push for the winner.
