East of Scotland: Spartans win keeps the pressure on students

Spartans maintained the pressure on Stirling University at the top of the Central Taxis Premier Division with a 1-0 win against Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale thanks to an early strike from top goalscorer, Keith McLeod.

Preston Athletic recorded their first league victory of the season with a 4-3 win against Edinburgh University, courtesy of a hat-trick from Sean Martin and another goal from Connor Scott, while Tim Rawlinson, Kohei Habata and Jack Beacher netted for the students.

In the Alex Jack Cup, Leith Athletic beat Eyemouth United 6-3, Ormiston defeated Peebles Rovers 6-1, Craigroyston overcame Tynecastle 2-1 and Gretna 2008 beat Heriot Watt University 5-3 on penalties.
