East of Scotland: Spartans hit late winner to extend league lead

SPARTANS came from behind to beat nine-man Tynecastle 3-2 and extend their lead at the top of the Central Taxis Premier Division to six points.

In an action-packed encounter, Tynecastle’s Jamie Butler was sent off in the final minute of the first half, which finished goal-less. Jamie Devlin gave Tynecastle the lead before Willie Bremner equalised. An Alasdair MacKinnon own goal put Tynecastle ahead before Jamie Speed was red-carded, then Donal Henretty equalised for Spartans with seven minutes left. In stoppage time, Keith McLeod grabbed a winner for Spartans.

Whitehill Welfare moved into second position with a 2-1 victory against the students of Edinburgh University. Wayne McIntosh gave Whitehill a tenth-minute lead, although the university equalised within 60 seconds through a William Kidd own goal. A McIntosh penalty midway through the second half sealed all three points for Whitehill.
