Durie departs East Fife due to health problems

EAST Fife manager Gordon Durie has resigned from his post due to the health issues that have seen him absent from Bayview for nearly three months now.

The Fifers crashed out of the Scottish Cup 5-1 at Elgin on Saturday with coaches Brian McNaughton and Bob Malcolm in charge as Durie has been absent since collapsing shortly after the final whistle in his side’s home Second Division game with Queen of the South back on 18 August.

It was said then that an allergic reaction, combined with an underlying asthmatic condition, had caused the condition. However, Durie was signed off again for another two weeks on Friday and a combination of that and his side’s defeat have prompted his resignation.

Durie said: “Due to on-going health problems and the uncertainty that has arisen during my absence, I have decided to resign in order to allow the club to move forward. I would like to thank all the fans for their messages of support during this time. It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity to manage the club where I started my career.”
