Chisholm steps down at Methil

Gordon Chisholm has praised Second Division club East Fife for their understanding after business pressures forced the 52-year-old to give up his post as assistant manager at the club.

Chisholm was appointed to the role by his former Hibs team-mate Gordon Durie in March of this year. He has, however, been in charge of first team affairs for the past two months after Durie took ill following a game at New Bayview against Queen of the South.

The increased workload could not have come at a worse time for Chisholm, who said: “After being out of football for 18 months I started up an estate agent business with my wife earlier this year. That has taken up a lot of my time and it was becoming increasingly difficult to combine the roles, as the travelling from my Lenzie home to Methil twice a week for training and then for games is quite lengthy.”

“I spoke to the club about it earlier in the week and they were very supportive and asked me to think about things. I did that and I believe that the fairest thing for everyone is that someone else comes in.”

Brian McNaughton and Bob Malcolm are now in charge, with Chisholm hoping to get back into football at a later date.
