Dunfermline ponder deal for Robert Thomson

Dunfermline could offer freed Dundee United youngster Robert Thomson a deal but will not be signing former Celtic striker Liam Gormley.

Thomson has played twice for the Pars under-20s side as a trialist after joining the Pars for training and has impressed manager Jim Jefferies.

However, reports linking Gormley, who spent time at East Fife last season after being released by Celtic, with the Pars are wide of the mark.

Jefferies said: “Robert Thomson is here and has been training with us, and he’s played a couple of games. We’ll make a decision on that. He’s done well so far.

“Liam came in and we had a look at him. He’s a decent wee player but we’ve probably got similar players to him.”

Meanwhile, Jefferies has warned his players to expect opposition teams to raise their games against them this term.

The Fifers face Arbroath at home tomorrow after opening their League One campaign with a derby victory away to East Fife.

Jefferies added: “The teams coming will get a lift. They are playing at Dunfermline and the atmosphere will be better than they are used to, so they’ll raise their game and we’ve got to be prepared.

“When Rangers come calling, of course, we’ll raise our game.”
