Dark Blues director of football John Nelms has confirmed that the Dens Park side are in talks over a deal that could see the clubs share academy expertise. It’s hoped any deal would increase Dundee’s chances of landing top Everton youth talent on loan.

Nelms told the Evening Telegraph: “We’ve been talking about doing this for a long time. It’s always been in our plans.

“Paul (Hartley), myself and Scot (Gardiner) have a lot of contacts within the game. That’s something we need to utilise and begin to cultivate.”

He added: “Everton said that they would love to have some of their players playing up in Scotland

“And, for us, we would love to have some of them with us at Dens.”

Dundee are currently involved in informal partnerships with Houston Dynamo and AC Milan. Everton manager Roberto Martinez played for Motherwell during his on-field career, and his Goodison Park side features Scotland international Steven Naismith, ex-Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy and former Celtic midfielder Aidan McGeady.
