New boss Ray McKinnon wants to make the 29-year-old his first signing at Tannadice as he looks to rebuild the squad ahead of the Ladbrokes Championship season.

Bell didn’t feature at all for Rangers last season. When not out through injury he sat on the substitutes bench as the back-up to Wes Foderingham.

Though Bell still has another 12 months on his current deal, it is expected he’ll be allowed to leave Ibrox as manager Mark Warburton has already been credited with searching for another goalkeeper to compete with Foderingham for the No.1 jersey.

Former Japanese international Eiji Kawashima initially looked set to remain as first choice at United after the club’s relegation from the top flight, but United decided to withdraw the option of another year in the goalkeeper’s contract.
