Dundee United made a flying start against Kilmarnock before being pegged back and having to settle for a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly at Tannadice.

There was less than a minute on the clock when the Championship winners took the lead. Killie’s trialist goalkeeper made a hash of his kick and the ball was picked up by Lawrence Shankland. United’s top scorer of last season played in Cammy Smith and he took the ball into the penalty area before finishing smartly.

Kilmarnock got back on terms in the second half when Nicke Kabamba skilfully flicked the ball to Greg Kiltie, who drove a shot past United’s substitute goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet via a deflection off the leg of Calum Butcher.

Motherwell and Hamilton Academical fought out a 2-2 draw in a Lanarkshire derby behind closed doors. The Fir Park side took the lead on 40 minutes when Liam Donnelly met Liam Polworth’s corner and flashed home a header. Accies hit back immediately through Scott McMann, who picked up the ball on the left wing, cut in and shot past Trevor Carson.

The goal gave Hamilton a lift and they came out strongly in the second half and took the lead through substitute Marios Ogkmpoe, whose header beat Carson. Motherwell were not to be denied and equalised when Ricki Lamie headed home a corner after 70 minutes, with Polworth again the provider.

Livingston and Ross County also played out a 2-2 draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena. The home side opened the scoring after 32 minutes when Lyndon Dykes, pictured, headed in Nicky Devlin’s cross. Livingston doubled their lead in the second half through new signing Salim Kouider-Aissa, who nodded in Ciaron Brown’s long throw.

The goal galvanised the Highlanders who pulled one back on 55 minutes thanks to Ross Stewart. Liam Fontaine scored the equaliser with 15 minutes left after being played in by Billy Mckay.
