On their official website, United confirmed that the 20-goal striker will head to England once terms and conditions have been discussed, with BBC Scotland reporting that Russell has agreed personal terms with the Championship club.

Dundee United said that “an undisclosed fee” has been agreed, thought to be in the region of £750,000.

The club statement said: “The transfer is expected to be concluded after the player has completed the necessary formalities early next week.

“Importantly, the Club is working extremely hard to bring in quality new players with a view to strengthening the squad for the upcoming season.”

United have been linked with a loan move for former star striker David Goodwillie, although a deal is reportedly far from done.
