Bain brought down Billy McKay in the 51st minute but Dundee will argue that the covering Kevin Holt meant the striker would not have had an obvious chance.

Dundee were two up at the time but McKay netted the penalty past substitute David Mitchell and then an injury-time equaliser to earn the Ladbrokes Premiership bottom club a point.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that we have submitted an appeal against the red card given to Scott Bain during the match against Dundee United on Sunday.”

The 24-year-old will miss the visit of Ross County on April 2 if the appeal fails.
