Dundee 1 - 2 Ross County: McMenamin clinches victory against old club

THE width of the First Division splits Ross County and Dundee following the Highlanders’ win at Dens Park.

Dundee took the lead from the penalty spot through Matt Lockwood before County started playing and goals from Colin McMenamin and Rocco Quinn either side of half-time sent them top of the table.

Dundee chose not to start new signing Gavin Rae, who signed for the club for a second time on Friday, instead leaving the former Rangers man on the bench.

Referee Stephen Finnie was given an easy decision when Marc Fitzpatrick tugged back Nicky Riley inside the penalty area. This gave Lockwood the chance to step forward and the left-back was deadly, sending Michael Fraser the wrong way. But Dundee could not build on that and were pegged back before half-time when McMenamin – released by Dundee 12 months ago when they went into administration – met Quinn’s cross from the left to fire a shot in off defender Neil McGregor.

On 63 minutes Dundee failed to close down Quinn 30 yards from goal and he needed no second invitation to shoot, sending the ball flying past Douglas into his bottom right-hand corner.
