Dundee 0 - 1 Hamilton Accies

TOMAS Cerny, the Hamilton goalkeeper, mounted a one-man rearguard action against Dundee as Billy Reid’s team plundered three points from Dens Park.

The Czech repelled shots from Steven Milne, Nicky Riley and Stephen O’Donnell as the Dark Blues peppered Accies’ goal during a dominant 60-minutes.

But they were mugged by Mark McLaughlin’s looping header which took the full quota of points back to North Lanarkshire, while Dundee now prop up Division One.

Hamilton, stung by two recent defeats following their exemplary start to the campaign, weathered some early Dundee pressure before creating their first real opportunity after 11 minutes.

Derek Lyle, formerly of Dundee, skipped past defender Neil McGregor on the edge of the area in search of a shooting angle but, to McGregor’s credit, the space was only available for a fraction of a second before he recovered to block before the ball reached Rab Douglas, his goalkeeper. Dundee should have taken the lead on 15 minutes when Milne was played through on goal by Jamie McCluskey but his angled shot trundled weakly into the grateful arms of Cerny.

Milne, excelling in the lone role, was determined make an impact on the contest flicked a looping shot towards goal but was denied by Cerny’s fingertips.

Dundee continued the second half in the same vein, seeing Irvine and McCluskey go close with looping shots from either side which narrowly flew past the post.

But Dundee’s failure to capitalise on their dominance came back to haunt them as Hamilton, in their first real foray into the Dark Blues’ box, scored the winner with that McLaughlin header.
