He headed home a curled free kick from the right from Scott Smith knowing that visiting goalkeeper Robbie Thompson was about to clatter into him. Graham, pictured below, was flat out on the ground as the ball dropped into the net. However, he recovered after treatment, with manager Ian Murray saying: “He was very brave and it was a shame that he could not enjoy his moment. Three minutes into the second half Garry Fleming released Steven MacDougall on the left of the Diamonds’ box and he sent in a low drive that spun out of the grasp of replacement goalkeeper Kenny Arthur.
Dumbarton eased up and Airdrie grabbed a goal on 64 minutes when defender Gregor Buchanan rose to head home a Willie McLaren corner. That woke Murray’s men up again and MacDougall picked up Jim Lister at the back post and the striker nodded down to Agnew who thumped home from eight yards out.
Airdrie boss Jimmy Boyle said: “We are still giving away soft goals, but the performance of some of our young lads gives us hope for next season.”
