Dumbarton 2 - Raith Rovers 4: Raith strong performance

Ten-man Raith kept up their impressive start to the Championship with a powerful showing at Dumbarton, despite a late flurry by the Sons.

Raith started well with Jamie Ewings having to punch clear under pressure from Greig Spence after Joe Cardle’s inswinging corner. Sons then attacked and Mitch Megginson fired just over after Mark Gilhaney’s through ball.

Raith took the lead on 17 minutes, Spence heading on a Jason Thomson cross for Calum Elliot, who fired home from 6 yards.

On 21 minutes Cardle went down in the box looking for a penalty after an Andy Graham challenge but ref Brian Colvin booked him for diving.

Liam Fox hit a 25-yard shot off the bar after the Sons defence only partially cleared a Cardle corner on 31 minutes.

David McGurn’s punch landed at Prunty’s feet but the Sons striker, right, fired his 14-yard shot off the bar.

On 55 minutes, Sons defender Paul McGinn fouled Dougie Hill in the box and Spence sent Ewings the wrong way from the resultant penalty. Then, five minutes later, Cardle sent over a pinpoint cross for Hill, who buried his header.

Sons kept battling and grabbed a late goal, with Prunty finishing clinically from 12 yards with two minutes to go.

In stoppage time Raith sub Reece Donaldson was shown a straight red card for bringing down Prunty, who converted the penalty.

However, with Sons pouring men forward, ten-man Raith broke clear to seal the points with sub Gordon Smith setting up Lewis Vaughan for a tap-in.
