Dumbarton 1 - 5 Morton: Morton could be real McCoy

ANYONE rushing to write off the title credentials of Morton would do well to think again. If the Greenock men can repeat this kind of performance on a consistent basis, they could be the real McCoy, writes Alan Gallacher at Bet Butler Stadium.

In saying that, for all Allan Moore’s men were devastating going forward, even without top scorer Archie Campbell, they were offered next to no resistance by a Dumbarton team who, if their season was a boxing match, would have long since been spared more punishment.

The tone was set after only three minutes when Martin Hardie comprehensively converted from the spot after David Graham had been sent sprawling.

That opened the floodgates as the home team were pummelled from all angles with Weatherson, Reid and O’Brien all going close before Hardie powered home a header just after the quarter hour mark. It culminated in Weatherson adding a third before the break courtesy of a free header from six yards out.

There was to be no let-up after the interval with Morton pulling out all the stops to score direct from a corner through David Graham, before Weatherson slotted home his second.

The Sons did salvage scant consolation late-on, Brian Prunty angling home a smart finish to round off the scoring.
