The Sons surged forward straight from the kick-off and Mitch Megginson darted into the box before squaring for Chris Turner. However, Moussa Mampuya made a crucial block before clearing.

Colin Nish drew a diving save from Darren Livi’s Jamieson with a scissors kick which was sneaking in at the keeper’s left-hand post.

Livi responded but Andy Barrowman was denied when his angled header drifted agonisingly beyond the far post.

But it was Dumbarton who made the breakthrough on the stroke of halftime when a deep cross was nodded down by Nish and Meggingson volleyed decisively into the net.

The Lions, though, were transformed on the restart and a sweeping move brought them level. Martin Scott found Mampuya darting down the right and his first-time cross was met by Marc McNulty who gave Jamie Ewings no chance. Suddenly the Sons were under siege as Stefan Scougall and substitute Keaghan Jacobs pulled the strings in midfield. And their pressure paid off when the Dumbarton defence dithered and Barrowman fed McNulty who rattled in his second.
