Derek Riordan's trial at York City is washed away

Derek Riordan's hopes of landing a deal with York City were dealt a blow last night when the Minstermen's clash against Guisborough Town was postponed.

York manager Jackie McNamara was set to field a second-string side for the North Riding Senior Cup quarter-final, including the former Scotland internationalist. However, Guisborough’s pitch was waterlogged.

That means McNamara will have to wait to see Riordan, who joined York on trial this week, in action as he weighs up whether to hand the
former Hibernian and Celtic forward a deal.

Riordan, 33, has been training with Hibs in a bid to keep fit but manager Alan Stubbs confirmed last month that he would not be given a contract for a third spell at Easter Road.

York are desperate to secure attacking reinforcements as McNamara attempts to plot a way out of the relegation zone in England’s League Two, where they currently lie
seven points adrift of safety.

York have won just one of McNamara’s 11 games in charge.
