Derek Riordan ‘may go abroad’ for full-time move

Brechin City player/manager Darren Dods reckons that former Hibernian, Celtic and Scotland striker Derek Riordan will not become a Glebe Park player – for the time being at least.

The 32-year-old turned out for Dods’ side in a bounce game against Falkirk at the University of Stirling last week. However, the Brechin boss does not rate his chances of signing Riordan as high.

“Derek came in as we were a bit short of players and he lives quite close to Stirling,” Dods said. “He was doing us a favour and we were doing him a favour in terms of giving him 90 minutes.

“He wants to play abroad or secure a full-time team here so we have not pursued his signature. It may be that we will go back in for him come January. However, nothing is happening at the moment.”

The three-times capped player is a free agent after ending a three-month spell at East Fife at the end of last season.

Prior to that he had short spells with Alloa, Bristol Rovers and St Johnstone.
