Dario Zanatta scores penalty equaliser for Hearts at Cowden

A Hearts XI were given a decent workout by Cowdenbeath at Central Park and had to rely on a late penalty from Dario Zanatta, pictured, to give them a 1-1 draw.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half when Kris Renton fired home from close range from Shaun Rutherford’s cross. Renton almost put Cowdenbeath further in front six minutes into the second half but guided his header just off target.

Zanatta equalised for Hearts with just 11 minutes left from the penalty spot after he had been fouled.

Partick Thistle slipped to a tame 4-0 defeat at Bath City. The home side led at half-time when Billy Murphy converted a penalty in the final minute of the half. Nick McCootie headed the second goal from a Murphy corner two minutes into the second half. Shaqille Hunter put the home side 3-0 up with a shot from just outside the box and then Josh Hutchison netted a fourth.

Motherwell opened their season with a 3-1 win at Albion Rovers. Paul Willis put Albion in front with a composed finish but Motherwell hit back to lead 2-1 at half-time.

Louis Moult headed the equaliser from a Marvin Johnson cross and then Johnson put Motherwell in front before the break with a great strike from the edge of the penalty area. Keith Lasley netted the third with a volley.

Paul McManus scored twice, once with a penalty, as East Fife beat Spartans 4-0 at Bayview. Kevin Smith opened the scoring with a header and a trialist scored the second, also with a penalty.

Fraserburgh drew 3-3 with an Inverness Caledonian Thistle XI in a testimonial for William West.
