The former St Mirren boss has been handed the reins until the end of the season.

Wolecki Black suffered a stroke during the half-time break of Airdrie’s victory at Cowdenbeath on Saturday and the Ladbrokes League One side have opted for an experienced manager to help first-team coach Donald Jennow with their play-off push.

Lennon told the club’s official website: “No-one would want to come into a job in these circumstances but all I want to do is try to continue the terrific work Eddie has done at Airdrieonians until he recovers.

“Eddie is a close friend of mine and we share the same football philosophy.

“It was very important to me that I had his blessing to come in and I know I have that now.”

Chief executive Iain King added: “Danny is someone Eddie has the utmost regard for and he knows the club are in good hands for the remainder of the season until he returns.”
