Cup match can help us in the league claims Fox

LIVINGSTON captain Liam Fox says the club’s forthcoming league matches hosting Dumbarton and Cowdenbeath are far bigger than their League Cup tie at Tynecastle during the week.

Livi lost out 3-1 to Hearts despite pegging back the home side with a sensational Marc McNulty strike, but Fox thinks winning tomorrow against the Sons will be far bigger than any cup upset might have been.

The Lions have stuttered at the start of the campaign and are without a league win at home since February, and
the former Jambo is hoping they’ll put that behind them

He said: “Everyone was talking about how big Tuesday was against a top side, but I think the next two home games are bigger. We want points on the board and we’ve got two home games and it’s an opportunity to do that.

“I was impressed with Dumbarton when we played in the League Cup, so we’re going to have to be aware of that.

“The only pressure we had during the week was put there by ourselves: we wanted to improve upon the performance from Dunfermline.”

Livi were on the end of a 4-0 thumping in Fife last week, and have picked up only one league win in six encounters so far this season.

And despite impressive away form in the last campaign, they haven’t tasted success at
Almondvale since a 4-0 success of their own against Raith Rovers early in the year.

It’s a stat Fox admits the players are desperate to put it right.

“Hopefully Tuesday’s improvement leads on to tomorrow,” he said. “We’ve not won at home since February and we want to put that right in front of our own fans.

“On Tuesday, I think it was the sort of game where although we lost 3-1, we got back into the game with a fantastic goal from Marc [McNulty], and, if we’d held it a bit longer, the crowd might have turned.

“That’s all ifs, buts and maybes, though. We grafted hard for 90 minutes and we showed spells of quality. We maybe could have passed the ball better, but it’s difficult going to an SPL side like Hearts.

“We need to build on Tuesday, and hopefully we can do that starting tomorrow.”
