Cowdenbeath 1 - 1 Sheffield U: Credible draw

A spectacular goal by Jordan Morton earned the Blue Brazil a creditable draw against their League One opponents.

The Blue Brazil gave as good as they got and might have gone ahead in 34 minutes when Marc McKenzie sent an inviting cross into the box. Former England U19 cap Nathaniel Wedderburn, playing as a trialist, sent his header inches over.

The Fifers had an even better chance when Mark Ramsay’s defence-splitting pass sent McKenzie clear, but his angled effort trickled wide.

They were punished for the miss on the stroke of half-time. Darryl Westlake’s shot sparked a scramble in the home box and Chris Porter, who scored against Morton in midweek, reacted first to bundle the ball home. Cowdenbeath secured a deserved draw when Morton’s 25-yard shot gave Blades goalkeeper Mark Howard no chance.

Howard denied the Blue Brazil victory with an excellent late block to thwart Andy Russell.
