Cowdenbeath 0 - 2 Dundee: Beattie helps bag win

CRAIG Beattie’s stunning first-half goal set Dundee on their way to a deserved three points from the trip to Central Park.

The former Scotland international controlled a clipped pass forward before lifting the bouncing ball over the advanced Thomas Flynn from 35 yards. The keeper scrambled back in an attempt to deny the effort but could only push the ball into the roof of the net.

It was the one moment of brilliance in an otherwise unmemorable first half with the visitors slightly shading the contest on the balance of play.

It was in the second half that John Brown’s men showed their superiority and should have added another four or five to their tally.

If Flynn was at fault for the opening goal then he atoned for that error threefold following the break, denying Declan Gallagher, Peter MacDonald and Nicky Riley with a string of stunning saves.

The hosts had little going forward and it was only a matter of time before Dundee killed the game off. Seconds after Beattie departed to a hero’s reception, MacDonald was released on the left wing and his low cross found Ryan Conroy at the back post. He stayed calm to slot the ball past Flynn.
