Cowan signs up Cruickshank but denies he has been splashing the cash

DAVID COWAN snapped up Spartans star Andrew Cruickshank – then laughed off claims about Fauldhouse being the South Division’s big-spenders.

“I’ve spent less than £3000 on players this season,” said Cowan. “That might be a lot for some teams, but I actually spent more at Spartans.”

Cruickshank’s capture was completed last night and follows the signing of Kevin Ross from Stoneyburn as the Fauldhouse manager bolsters his defensive options.

“Andrew was the club captain at Spartans, so he’s a good one for us to get,” added Cowan. “He can play at either right back or centre-back, while Kevin is a centre-back.”

Fauldhouse, who are away to Livingston tomorrow, are sitting third in the table, two points behind both Dalkeith and Tranent.

A close title race is in prospect in the second half of the season, with Cowan predicting that any of the top eight teams at the moment could emerge as champions.

“At this stage of the season you’d normally expect three or four teams to have broken away, but it really is tight at the moment,” he said.
