Both players penned three-year contracts at Tynecastle following the capture of Scotland youth striker Robbie Muirhead on a one-year deal.

The three new recruits will meet their team-mates for the first time tomorrow when the Hearts squad report to Riccarton for the start of pre-season training. Sammon, 29, adds competition up front after Gavin Reilly was loaned to Dunfermline, whilst Rherras will challenge for a place at both left-back and right-back.

Sammon secured his release from Derby County before agreeing terms with Hearts. He made his name in Scotland with Kilmarnock before joining Wigan Athletic and later Derby. He failed to make an impact in the Midlands and spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, Rotherham United and Sheffield United.

Rherras is a highly-rated defender who is a Moroccan Under-23 internationalist. He qualifies for the African nation through his parents, although he was born in Liege. He left the Belgian side Sint-Truiden at the end of last season.

Robbie Neilson, the Hearts head coach, told the club website: “I’m delighted to get both players to Tynecastle. Conor brings a lot of experience to the squad. He knows the Scottish game well after a successful period at Kilmarnock and has played at the highest level down in England.

“Faycal is a player with real potential and will be a big boost to the defence. He’s played at a good level in Belgium and has been involved in the Moroccan international scene so it’s quite a coup to get him. Both players will add a lot to the squad and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
