Clyde 1 - 3 Queen's Park: David Galt hits Spiders screamer

Queen's Park have the initiative in the League 1 play-off thanks to Vinnie Berry's second-half goal which was then complemented with a wonder strike by David Galt in their 3-1 success at Clyde.

Following the death of Chris Mitchell at the weekend the Bully Wee players warmed up in T-shirts carrying a picture of their former team-mate as well as his squad number of 16, and his passing was marked by an impeccably observed minute’s silence before 
kick-off.

The visitors were in front after five minutes from the penalty spot when Galt burst into the box and Marvin Andrews barged the striker to the ground.

Sean Burns sent the ball one way and Clyde goalkeeper John Gibson the other.

Two minutes later Queen’s shot-stopper Willie Muir rescued his side with a fantastic one-handed stop after team-mate Bryan Wharton was wayward with a header after a long throw-in by Scott Linton.

Another lengthy throw by Linton led to Clyde levelling on 15 minutes when John Gemmell took charge as the ball bounced around the Queen’s box to head home from six yards.

As applause rang out 60 seconds later to mark Mitchell’s number, Jordan Kirkpatrick almost put the hosts ahead with a whipped free-kick that landed on the top of the net.

A surging run by Steven Brisbane 12 minutes from the break almost led to a second for Clyde as his low cross from the bye-line caused 
panic before the ball was hacked clear.

Clyde had the first opening of the second half when Kirkpatrick let fly from 20 yards and David Gormley just failed to turn home the loose ball after Muir could only partially save,

Galt had another opening on the hour mark, but again Gibson kept the scoreline level.

However, the visitors were rewarded for a bright spell with a second goal on 63 minutes. Paul Woods darted through the Clyde defence and when his shot was blocked Berry was on hand to blast the ball home from eight yards.

Again Clyde looked to hit back quickly and Muir had to produce a wonder save to keep out a deflected Linton free-kick, but the Spiders clinched the win in style six minutes from time.

There seemed to be little danger when Galt picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, but he sent in a screamer of a shot which crashed into the net via the underside of the crossbar.
