The 38-year-old netted a late equaliser at Celtic Park to earn Rangers a point and end their rivals’ 28 unbeaten run in domestic football.

The Ibrox side had been written off and were as much as 9/1 with some bookies to win in the east end of Glasgow. The Englishman told Sky Sports that his side have “proved a few people wrong”.

“A great point by the lads, never stopped from the first minute to the last, true spirit,” he said. “We’ve been questioned by various pundits, speaking absolute nonsense all week about our character and we’re going to be weak and all this garbage.

“I think we’ve proved a few people wrong there.”

Hill, whose goal saw Celtic drop points for only the second time in the league this season, believes the players showed up well in front of their new boss Pedro Caixinha.

“If I missed it I’d need crucifying. It was a great shot, (Gordon) done well with the save, I just managed to follow it up.

“He’s come in overnight and hopefully he’ll take a lot of positives out that as well. Obviously we were all on show again. Everyone had to stand up and deliver. So it was a good point overall and great performance by the boys. Never stopped, move on to next week.”

Team-mate Martyn Waghorn missed two great chances prior to Hill’s equaliser but spoke of trying to avoid what pundits had to say.

“You try and distract yourself as much as possible”, he told Sky Sports “You hear a lot of it in Glasgow, it is everywhere you go. It’s all about us this week, we built on two good performances the last two weeks. It was important that we come here and showed the new boss what we are all about.

“I think the first half we looked a real threat on the break. Disappointing to concede the goal but we’ve dug in deep, great character from the boys, to come here and get a point.

“It’s all about focusing on next week and building on what we achieved today.”
