Hasselbaink has played the last match of his second spell at Accies after being told his short-term deal would not be renewed.

The former St Johnstone player has already returned to Holland to play for Surinam in a friendly against Curacao.

He could be replaced by powerful French striker Nade, who scored seven goals for Raith Rovers last season after signing from Dundee.

Accies boss Martin Canning said: “He has been in training this week and we will get a wee look at him.

“We are looking for strikers because Nigel has moved on. We will be needing somebody and we will have a look at everybody and anybody if they want to come in and train.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Ali Crawford is looking to improve on Hamilton’s seventh-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership next season after being undaunted by their return to the top flight.

“It’s not as hard as everybody makes out,” Crawford said. “We got beat in the first game of the season and everyone was saying we were going to go back down. We dug in and went on a great run in the first half of the season. We know we can do that now and we can take that into next season and not be scared.

“We probably should have finished in the top six but we can try and move on to that next season and hopefully finish higher than we have done this season.”
