Charlie Nicholas buys Allan McGregor's penthouse

The former Celtic and Arsenal player did a deal with the ex-Rangers star who has been trying to sell the home for more than four years.

Property records show Nicholas, now a Sky Sports analyst, and his wife Claire paid £775,000 for the four bedroom property near Glasgow city centre earlier this month.

That meant McGregor, 34, lost £150,000 on the pad, which boasts a games room and a home cinema, as he bought it for £925,000 in 2008.

The Hull City player shared the pad with ex-fiancee Leah Shevlin before the pair moved to a detached home on the outskirts of Glasgow.

It was first put on the market for offers over £850,000 in November, 2011.

After failing to find a buyer it had its price slashed by £75,000 before it was rented out to Celtic star Anthony Stokes for more than a year.

Pictures of the expensively designed furnished home revealed a distinctive monochrome colour scheme, with a black grand piano in the hallway.

The kitchen features a built-in plasma television as well as a silver Buddha statue.

The townhouse conversion also boasts four bedrooms with three ensuites, with each designer bathroom fitted with underfloor heating.

Next door is a stylish games room which boasts a monochrome snooker table. Each room is fitted with a remote stereo and iPod docking system, so music can be piped throughout the lavish pad.

Estate agents McEwan Fraser Legal described it as an “exquisite and highly versatile duplex”.

The sales brochure said: “Vibrant, fashionable and truly unique are a few choice words to describe this luxurious property.

“Established over two levels this property combines contemporary styling with an array of period features. This traditional sandstone townhouse has been carefully renovated, both internally and externally, to create lavish accommodation that will blow you away.”

Nicholas, 54, is not moving far as he already has apartment just around the corner from his new purchase.

He declined to comment on the purchase.

McGregor split with Shevlin just days before their wedding last year.
