Changing room chat: Lawn man George calls it a day at 79

ONE of Scotland’s leading groundsmen has announced his retirement at the age of 79.

George Strachan worked for 32 years at West Lothian’s Boghall cricket ground in Linlithgow. He was twice named Groundsman of the Year by the SCU, who staged several international matches at the venue. The Scottish Cup was also hosted by West Lothian in 2005.

Before turning to groundsmanship Strachan had a successful playing career, earning two Scotland caps in 1965 and claiming more than 1,000 wickets for West Lothian.
