Celtic's Brendan Rodgers '˜will be English target'

James Vincent has told Celtic fans to savour having Brendan Rodgers as their manager '“ because this might be the Parkhead gaffer's first and last title triumph.

Rodgers has been a revelation since succeeding Ronny Deila at the helm last summer and is on course for a domestic first-season treble as Celtic head for Dens Park for today’s televised encounter.

It’s only a matter of time before Celtic, who are unbeaten domestically this season, clinch the Premiership title under the leadership of Rodgers, pictured.

But Dundee midfielder Vincent reckons it could be the 44-year-old Northern Irishman’s one and only flag success because the former Liverpool boss’s exploits in Scotland already are sure to make him in-demand for a return move south.

Englishman Vincent said: “Brendan has done a marvellous job. Without doubt, if he goes through the whole season undefeated then clubs down in England especially will be sitting up and taking notice.

“I think it will come down to where his ambition lies. He already has a good reputation in England so nothing would surprise you.

“Looking from the outside, you never know what’s going to happen at a club like Arsenal in the near future and Rodgers’ results here in Scotland won’t go unnoticed in certain quarters.

“He proved for the three years or so when he was in charge of Liverpool that he can cut it in the English Premier League. It’s a fact of football these days – like it or not – that if you’re doing well and getting success then you’re going to inevitably attract interest.

“Rodgers has turned Celtic round big-time in such a short space of time. Who knows how long he’ll stay there for?”

Dundee go into today’s Celtic clash buoyed by their recent 2-1 win over Rangers on Tayside and ex-Inverness man Vincent is urging his team-mates to hit those heights again against the Glasgow giants.

Vincent said: “We played really well against Rangers and will need that same intensity in this fixture.

“Celtic will be coming here on such a massive high and will be absolutely determined to keep their great record going.

“In one sense, it’s a daunting prospect but at the same time it’s one we’re relishing so we can pit our wits against the best team in Scotland.

“Hopefully the whole occasion can bring out the best in us because we know on our day we have a lot to offer as well.”

Dundee lost 2-0 away to St Johnstone recently and before that they saw their proud five-month unbeaten home record smashed by Partick Thistle, so are aiming to make Dens a fortress once more.

Vincent said: “As much as Celtic are homing in on the title, we certainly have just as much to play for. We want to finish the season with a flurry and our focus is getting into the top six.

“We have some tough games coming up in the weeks ahead, including a visit from Aberdeen. But we just want to give our full focus on this 90 minutes with Celtic because it’s a big enough challenge as it is.”
