'Wow, seriously?', 'Last chance for Neil Lennon' - Celtic fans react to Ross County starting XI

The mood around Celtic at the moment meant that Neil Lennon’s team selection for this afternoon’s Betfred Cup tie against Ross County would come under extra scrutiny.

The return of goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas after seven games on the sidelines is one of four changes to the side that capitulated to Sparta Prague in midweek, with Nir Bitton, Albian Ajeti and Tom Rogic also being given the nod.

However, the main talking point among Celtic fans on social media appears to be the inclusion of captain Scott Brown in the centre of midfield, with many calling for the 35-year-old to be dropped or rested.

The Resistance Review (@T_Rreview): Brown must have something on Lennon. It’s the only explanation

JungleLion (@JungleLion_): Would have thought this was the ideal game to rest the capt today

Derekc78 (@derekc78): So it looks like back to a 3-5-2 could be 4-4-2 if not working. Delighted we have 2 up. Wtf is going on with Griff so much for going to be back today, not even in the squad. Not surprised Cal Mac been dropped and think Brown should have also. Looks like Soro ??? £3M wasted.

David Stewart (@DavidWho33): I’m 100% convinced that 2 hours before every kick off, Neil Lennon puts everyone’s name into a hat then pulls out 11 and that’s the team.

Keith Robertson (@Krobertson5808): How on earth is Brown still starting... Miles off the pace, 36 YO!!! He needs a spell on the sidelines… This team looks so unbalanced it's a joke.

celticghirl1888 (@celticghirl0106): Mon the Hoops but c’mon even us most positive fans know Broony needs rested now and again!

Paul Carty (@PaulCarty3): Perfect opportunity to rest Brown and we wonder why he is lagging in the bigger games, Lennon cannot see past him

Reckoner (@Reckoner1888): So we’re just going to keep doing this Brown thing then? How many runners does he need to lose? How many balls is he going to misjudge? How many times does he need to be second in reacting to scrappy play before it’s recognised that his time is up? Club legend hung out to dry..

daniel hamilton (@danielhamilto16): Wow, seriously? This team has no pace what so ever! Young Henderson should be playing instead of brown and bitton. 2 things he’s done right is put barkas back in goal and 2 up front

iain morrison (@iainmor26602581): Where’s Karamoko gone? Surely should be at least on the bench when we have 0 wingers

Michael (@Michael41319946): I’d have liked to see Henderson start. We need younger players to break through especially in midfield. When Turnbull’s available he should start games as well.

James Chambers (@JChambers1984): Disgusting to hear you all having a go at Scott Brown. Have use ever thought his poor form is due to the ongoing issues surrounding the club at the moment. He has been nothing but a loyal servant to us and same goes for Callum McGregor. Last chance for Neil Lennon today!

Hoopsfan (@hoopsfan9): Glad Barkas is back. Also 3-5-2. With proper players in the back 3.
