What are Celtic's summer transfer plans - Neil Lennon provides update

The Northern Irishman has suggested how he sees the transfer window playing out

Celtic boss Neil Lennon reckons the transfer window is going to be a “buyers market” but he is not planning for a signing spree.

The Northern Irishman, basking in the club’s ninth league title win in succession, provided an update on his plans for the summer.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding football there is a lack of clarity but he is targeting only one or two to add to an already impressive squad.

"I don't think we need major surgery or a rebuild, I am really happy with the main core of the squad,” he told PLZ Soccer.

"Obviously if there is an opportunity to bring one or two in certain positions then we will endeavour to do that.

"The problem is we don't know how the landscape is going to look from day to day and week to week.

"We don't know how long the transfer window is going to be and how the market is going to look.

"I think if it does eventually open up it will be a buyers market so in that instance you certainly don't want to sell in a buyers market and maybe look to get one or two bargains along the way that will galvanise the squad and improve it.”

Lennon’s main priority is to hold on to the club’s key stars such as Kristoffer Ajer, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard.

All three have or certainly will be linked with a move away.

Lennon has suggested locking down Odsonne Edouard to stop club’s from signing him.

He said: “Odsonne decided to stay in Glasgow which for me bodes very, very well and we have him on a good contract.

"We have McGregor and Ajer on good contracts and any assets of our main players are tied up so we won't be really trying to engage any clubs or encouraging any bids for our top players.

"And with the ten-in-a-row incentive next season, that is motivation enough for the majority of the players to want to stay.”
