SPFL referee for Celtic v Aberdeen and each Premiership and Championship midweek fixture

Only six teams will be in action this midweek – the lowest number of games for some time.

Celtic will finally catch up with league leaders Rangers on Wednesday – in matches played – when Aberdeen visit Celtic Park.

The Parkhead side have long held at least one game in hand over their Old Firm rivals after the Dons clash was cancelled earlier in the season in the aftermath of two covid-19 controversies.

However the game is now all set to go ahead and Neil Lennon’s side will play their 29th match of the Premiership campaign against Derek McInnes’ visitors.

The match officials have been appointed, and they have also been named for another game previously postponed for reasons associated with the pandemic. St Mirren host Hamilton in a match that had previously been awarded to the Accies by forfeit only for the Paisley side to overturn the decision on appeal.

Wednesday night’s games balance out the league in terms of games played with all top-flight sides on either 28 or 29 games played to ensure clubs are all caught up before the split begins next month.

As well as the two top division games taking place at 6pm Queen of the South also make the long trip from Dumfries to Inverness for their SPFL Championship clash – just the 472 miles to be travelled on Wednesday night by the Doonhamers for the 6.30pm kick off.
