The Brighton centre-back left the club's training camp in Dubai early, sparking rumours he was on the verge of returning to the south coast.

However, the 29-year-old's spell will not be cut short.

Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy said: “Shane will be with us [for the remainder of the season]. We have no intention of sending him back to Brighton."

A central defender is understood to be the primary target for Celtic, with Leicester centre-half Filip Benkovic linked with a second loan spell in Scotland, but the champions could also look into bringing in another winger.

"We have Mikey Johnston coming back from injury now, and James Forrest is progressing well. We were a bit short in the wide positions for a period.

"It's not an easy position to find mid-season. If the right option becomes available, it could be a possibility.”
