Scottish Premiership post-split fixtures released

THE SPFL have released the Scottish Premiership’s post-split fixtures with league leaders Celtic appearing in five of the seven games currently scheduled to be televised live.

Ronny Deila’s side, who still have one final pre-split game remaining against Kilmarnock, will start with a trip to Dundee United. A match which is live on Sky Sports on the afternoon of Sunday 26 April.

From there the champions will host Dundee before making a Sunday 10 May trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen in front of the Sky cameras. As the current gap sits at five points with Celtic holding a game in hand, it’s not outwith the realms of possibility that Ronny Deila could win his first league title at the home of their closest challengers.

Due to the nature of the split, Celtic then have to make a third trip to McDiarmid Park this campaign before finishing up at home to Inverness CT.

On the subject of the Highlanders, a possible showdown for third place between John Hughes’s side and Dundee United is scheduled for the second last weekend.

The fourth and final Dundee derby will take place on the season’s final day.

In the bottom six, two Friday night televised matches are scheduled on BT Sport, both featuring relegation threatened Motherwell.

An addition televised match is expected to be scheduled when the kick-off times are decided for the final round fixtures in the bottom half.

As has been the norm in recent campaigns, the final top six matches will take place on a Sunday, with the bottom six scheduled for the day before. However, there are still ongoing negotiations regarding a potential shift of the bottom six games to the Friday night.

This proposal is perhaps the reason behind the SPFL announcement being delayed by a day, with negotiations between league officials, TV companies and the police reported as troublesome in this morning’s papers.

Should the relegation battle come down to the final round of fixtures, regardless of day, St Mirren will travel to Hamilton, Ross County will do likewise to Kilmarnock, and Motherwell will host Partick Thistle.
