Stephen Glass is believed to be on the verge of being appointed the next Dons boss, with reports claiming that Brown has verbally agreed to join him at the Pittodrie club as a player-assistant.

Brown is among the most decorated captains in the Celtic’s history, with 22 medals to his name over a hugely successful 14-year spell at Parkhead. His contract is up at the end of the season and he has yet to agree a new deal.

Celtic fans have been responding to the news:

Everything Celtic (@aboutceltic): The fact that it appears Scott Brown will leave Celtic with not even as little as a coaching role all but confirms the size of this revamp. Absolutely gutted to see a genuine club legend leave but it's an exciting albeit slightly intimidating time to be a Celtic supporter.

Teags (@Teagsy_): If you don't think Scott Brown leaving will be a massive loss to Celtic, you are so far off it. With a massive rebuild required next season, he is the perfect man to bridge the transition from the old guard to the new guard. His influence in the dressing room alone is monumental.

Boyle (@Boyle_67): I've grew up watching Scott Brown win 22 trophies, I've watched him swagger about stadiums up an down the country like he owned them, the natural order in Scotland became Brown lifting trophies, one of the most dominant club captains in Scottish football history. Cheers Broony.

Kieran Smyth (@kieransmyth97): From the age of 9 when I saw us sign this young lad from Hibs for over £4m to now being age 23 and having watched him lift the Scottish Cup to complete the Quadruple Treble for us, no one has epitomised Celtic FC more for me than Scott Brown. Captain. Leader. Legend.

Celtic1967.com (@Celtic1967_com): It's a travesty that Scott Brown won't be getting the send off that he deserves. Without question one of Celtic's greatest ever players and captains, a leader of men and serial winner. His presence will be missed

Michael Devlin (@michaeldevlin67): Celtic are a club that lacks strategy and forward thinking. I think its a huge mistake to let Scott Brown go. He is part of the fabric of the club has so much to give going forward. Another sad day.…
