TV cameras appeared to show the Celtic skipper catching his opponent in the face with a flailing arm during his side's 4-0 win at Rugby Park on Tuesday, but no action was taken by referee Kevin Clancy.

According to the Daily Record, the incident will now be examined by a three-member disciplinary panel who will decide whether there was any intent from Brown, and if any retrospective action is required.

Brown was sent off against Livingston in similar circumstances just two weeks ago, receiving a straight red card for catching Jaze Kabia with an elbow just five minutes after coming off the bench.

However, speaking directly after the Kilmarnock match, Celtic boss Neil Lennon felt there was no case to answer in the latest Brown incident.

"I didn't think there was anything in it,” he told Sky Sports. "Whereas, at Livingston two weeks ago, it looked a little bit more deliberate.

"But I don't think there was anything in that tonight at all. He had a very good game, he looked fresh and played very, very well.

"He looked, again, the player we know he can be."

The altercation was followed by Rangers reposting a quote from Steven Gerrard on Twitter where he called for “consistency” in the SFA disciplinary process after the Ibrox club accepted a three-match ban handed out to Alfredo Morelos for a stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous during last week’s 1-0 win at Easter Road.
