Barcelona goal hero Tony Watt could be sent out on loan to gain experience, Celtic boss Neil Lennon fears the Parkhead side may struggle against Cliftonville whilst Ally McCoist is keen to make Bilel Mohsni a Rangers player.

Celtic could loan Watt

Neil Lennon has admitted he could send young striker Tony Watt out on loan if he receives a suitable offer for the 19-year-old. Watt, who scored a stunning winner against Barcelona at Parkhead, has been included in Celtic’s Champions League squad for this season’s campaign but could be allowed to leave for regular game time.

Handed a four-year deal just weeks after sinking the Catalan giants, Watt scored just one goal after his giant-killing exploits, and faces a tough task to force himself into Lennon’s plans, despite the Parkhead manager losing Lassad Nouioui, Spanish flop Miku and potentially Gary Hooper.

Watt was sent home from Celtic’s pre-season tour of Germany after just 45 minutes against Ukrainian side Sebastopol, to receive treatment on a back injury.

Lennon: We may need extra time to get past Cliftonville

Neil Lennon has also expressed concern that his depleted Celtic squad may struggle to get past Northern Irish side Cliftonville in their Champions League qualifier.

Lennon is without Charlie Mulgrew, Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper, Adam Matthews and new boy Virgil van Dijk for Wednesday’s game in Belfast, and saw his side play four and lose four in their pre-season trip to Germany - scoring just four goals whilst conceding 13 in the process. Cliftonville meanwhile put nine past Crumlin United last night in their final pre-season game before the Celtic clash, and the Parkhead boss is relieved the second leg is at Parkhead - because he thinks the Hoops could need extra time to beat the Reds.

Lennon told the Sunday Mail: “I prefer having the first leg away from home because we can get them back to Celtic Park - and if the tie needs extra time we’ll be a week fitter.

McCoist wants Mohsni deal tied up

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has pleaded with Ibrox chief Craig Mather to sanction the signing of former West Ham stopper Bilel Mohsni ‘before someone else does.’

The one-time Southend defender has impressed as a trialist for the Gers, earning plaudits for his display against Bristol City, and McCoist is keen to bolster his squad and shore up his defence ahead of the new season. (Various)

Partick offer Kerr terms after goal

Top flight new boys Partick Thistle have offered a deal to former Dundee United and Aberdeen midfielder Mark Kerr.

The 31-year-old scored an impressive goal in the Jags’ 4-3 win over Dumbarton yesterday and Firhill boss Alan Archibald is keen to add Kerr to his ranks, saying: “He plays our way.” (STV)
