Tartan Army hit out at pricey tickets

FURIOUS members of the Tartan Army have accused the SFA of a season ticket rip-off after it was revealed that the cheapest briefs for all five home Euro 2016 qualifiers and a friendly against England will be £190.

The cheapest ticket package for the five World Cup qualifiers last year was just £115. The most expensive package this year will be £250, plus the £45 it costs to join the supporters’ club.

West of Scotland Tartan Army spokesman Hamish Husband said: “There are many Scotland fans who are convinced that they are being ripped off because of their loyalty. We know we are playing the world champions Germany but we also have Gibraltar in our Euro 2016 qualifying group. It also seems apparent that the purpose of the England game – which is a friendly – is just to fleece the fans and make money out of them.” (Daily Record)

Commons urges Celtic to agree new deal

KRIS Commons has urged Celtic chiefs to sort out his future now.

The 32-goal player of the year is in the final year of his contract but wants to finish his career at Parkhead.

Commons said: “The manager [Ronny Deila] and Peter Lawwell are aware of my contract situation. I’d like to finish my career at Celtic because there’s no need to go anywhere else. When you get four or five months into the last year of your contract, you can start to talk to other clubs. But that’s something I don’t want to do, I want to get my future sorted here. I’d rather get it sorted in the next couple of days, if it was up to me.” (The Sun)

Law says Rangers will be better than last season

RANGERS midfielder Nicky Law believes the cut-throat nature of the Championship will help fire Rangers back to the Premiership.

The Ibrox ace and his colleagues are in California as part of their preparations for the second-tier kick-off against Hearts next month.

Law said: “It’s going to be real serious stuff. There is no room for what happened in the second half of last season when our foot came off the pedal. We have a really good squad with experience to help us. I’m sure we’ll see a better Rangers team than we did in the final four or five months of last term.” (Daily Record)

Wright won’t risk crocked St Johnstone stars

ST JOHNSTONE boss Tommy Wright says it is too early in the season to gamble with the fitness of his players for the Europa League qualifier with Luzern.

Star striker Stevie May and defender Steven Anderson are both nursing injuries ahead of Thursday’s first leg in Switzerland.

Wright said: “Stevie May and Steven Anderson will travel with us but they’re still serious doubts. If they are 100 per cent fit they’ll be involved, but if they’re not then they won’t. It’s a big game for the club but you can’t risk muscle injuries at this time in the season. This is the starting point of ten months of football so you have to be mindful of that. We’ll have to leave the decisions as late as possible.” (Daily Express)

Dundee close in on German duo

DUNDEE are stepping up their efforts to land German duo Thomas Konrad and Luka Tankulic after the trialists helped them stun Manchester City on Sunday.

Bother players impressed in the 2-0 friendly win, with Tankulic on target and Konrad a stand-out in defence.

Manager Paul Hartley said: “Negotiations started on Sunday night and the guys have flown back to Germany. We want to get them back across straight away and if we could get the tied up for the middle of the week it would be great. It just depends on the financial side of things.” (Daily Record)
