Stubbs gets Moyes vote

David Moyes has given Alan Stubbs a huge vote of confidence after he was installed as the Hibs manager. The former manager of Manchester United had Stubbs as both a player and a coach in his time as Everton boss. Moyes said: “It’s a very good appointment by the club. This is a big job and one that Alan, I’m sure will thrive in.” (Post)

Meanwhile his hunt for a number two could be over after it was announced he is expected to announce former Everton stalwart Andy Holden as the man for the job within the next 48 hours. Standard Liege in for Tony Watt

New Celtic boss Ronny Deila will have a decision to make as Standard liege line up a bid for striker Tony watt. The Belgian outfit made £5million from the sale of 20-year-old striker Michy Batshuayi to Marseille this week and now Tony Watt is now top of their wanted list to replace the hitman. Watt who had problems while at Liege’s opponents Lierse where he was demoted to the B team, managed nine goals in 17 games and this has interested Liege and now they look set to make a bid. Kris Boyd says he’s friends with Ally McCoist

After rumours of a spat between the then assistant manager Ally McCoist and star striker Kris Boyd, that resulted in Boyd leaving for Middlesborough, the striker has moved to clear the air. The player, who it was thought would never return to the club so long as McCoist was in charge, stated he and his new manager had no enmity. He said: “There are always rumours flying about when you come to a club this size, but I don’t think a manager would sign a player he doesn’t like.” (Various)

He also was quick to point out that him choosing Rangers had nothing to do with money. He stated: “I could have earned more money, but for me it’s not about that. I’ve been about and earned a good wage over the years and there’s a lot to be said about being back home and being happy. Suarez says he ‘fell’ on Chiellini

Luis Suarez has tried to defend himself by claiming that he ‘fell face first’ into Chiellini and that at no point did he try to bite him. He said: “In the run-up to the impact, my knees came together, I lost my balance and that destabilised my body and I fell onto my opponent. In that moment my face came into collision with the player, causing a small bruise on my cheekbone and a lot of pain in my teeth, which caused the referee to stop play. That is what happened and at no point did I, as is written in that document, ‘bite’ or ‘try to bite’.” FIFA were not impressed and his punishment was held. (Various)

Souness says Brian Kennedy wants to make a fresh bid for Rangers

Graeme Souness has hinted that Brian Kennedy will make a fresh bid for Rangers. Kennedy previously tried to take control of the club after it entered administration, eventually linking up with Paul Murray and the Blue Knights consortium but was thwarted by Green and administrators Duff and Phelps. Souness however admitted, he could still be keen, he said: If the circumstances are right again I think he’d have another go.” (various)

Brazil through after penalties

Brazil are through to the last eight after drawing 1-1 with Chile in normal time, before beating them 3-2 on penalties. A David Luis goal was cancelled out when Alexei Sanchez equalised. A tense set of penalties eventually saw Gonzalo Jara thunder the post and Chile go out.

Colombia humble Uruguay

James Rodriguez put Uruguay to the sword last night, scoring two goals, including one rapturous volley, to help Colombia win the game 2-0. He has now moved to the front of the race for the Golden Boot and he has vowed that he will help Colombia defeat Brazil in the next round on Friday.

Bryan Ruiz will help Costa Rica go through
