Celtic close in on Stefan Scepovic

Celtic are close to agreeing a £2.4m deal for Sporting Gijon who scored 23 goals in 29 games in the Spanish Second Division last season.

• The Parkhead side have already agreed a loan deal for Ghana winger Wakaso Mubarak with the 24 year-old awaiting a work permit which is expected to be cleared shortly

Hull City stump cash for Andy Robertson

Hull have paid Dundee United an overdue payment of £1m for Andy Robertson which is the first instalment of the £3m fee for the Scotland starlet. United reported the matter to the SFA and Hull were threatened with FIFA sanctions.

Ice bucket challenge craze sweeps across Scottish football

• Celtic players and coaching staff braved the Ice Bucket Challenge at Lennoxtown today and raised £1,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland.

Captain Scott Brown and team-mates Emilio Izaguirre, Stefan Johansen, Nir Bitton and Dylan McGeouch all took up the challenge for the Scottish champions, along with goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods and coach John Kennedy.

• Ally McCoist accepted his nomination for the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of Motor Neurone Disease charities.

The Rangers boss was drenched by fitness coaches Jim Henry and Jamie Ramsden after nominating former Gers bosses Walter Smith and Graeme Souness and ex Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

• Former Rangers chief executive Charles Green requested that Celtic’s Peter Lawwell took the ice bucket challenge after completing his.

Wearing a Rangers training top, Green introduces the video by thanking Allan McGregor for the nomination before challenging the Celtic Park chief executive and Sky Sports presenter Jim White to do likewise.

Chris Robinson helps Coventry move back home

He was once vilified for his plans to uproot a football club from their spiritual home. But now former Hearts chief executive Chris Robinson is being lauded by Coventry City fans for helping the club move back to the Ricoh Arena.

In one of the most ironic football news stories of the year, Robinson led the negotiations for stadium owner Arena Coventry Limited (ACL) as it came to an amicable agreement with the Midlands club which will allow Coventry to play their home fixtures at the ground for the first time since August 2013. Ally McCoist fears over Paul Gascoigne

Ally McCoist has expressed his deep fears for Paul Gascoigne amid the latest health scare for the troubled former England midfielder.

Harrowing photographs of Gascoigne, who has been plagued by alcoholism for several years, showed him being attended to by medics and police before being admitted to hospital in Dorset on Thursday. (Scotsman)

Alex McLeish back in management with Genk

Alex McLeish has been appointed coach of Belgian club Genk on a two-year contract.

The 55-year-old Scot has not worked in football management since leaving Nottingham Forest by mutual consent in February 2013.

“KRC Genk is proud to present its new trainer - Alex McLeish,” the Belgian club posted on Facebook. “He signed a contract for two seasons. Welcome, Mr Alex McLeish.” (Scotsman)

Samaras signs for West Brom

Former Celtic attacker Georgios Samaras remains in British football after signing a two-year deal to join English Premier League side West Brom.

The Greek international, who left the Scottish champions in the summer, held talks with manager Alan Irvine on Thursday over a move to The Hawthorns.

The deal has now been agreed and Irvine believes the 29-year-old, who helped Greece to the last 16 of the World Cup this year, would be a major asset. (Scotsman)

Malky Mackay apologises for offensive messages

Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay sent text messages that were “disrespectful of other cultures”, the League Managers Association (LMA) said in a statement last night after he was ruled out of the running to take charge of Crystal Palace. (Scotsman)

• The Mail reports today that Mackay called owner “a chink” in a message to club official Ian Moody.

Mackay sent the following text about a potential signing target: “Not taking no for an answer from the chink untilt he 20th time or unless somebody big blows us out of the water. Can you tell him that.

When Mackay sees a player Cardiff has been interested in has been linked with another club, he texts Moody who responds with: “He told me he had an offer to go there but will never accept because the manager is a racist. Thankfully he hasn’t met you.”
