Former Rangers stars back Sons of Struth protest

A group of former Rangers players, including ex-captain Richard Gough, are backing a protest march launched by fans’ group Sons of Struth as they seek legal assurances over the club’s assets. Michael Mols, Marco Negri, Alex Rae and Bobby Russell will help promote a walk from Kinning Park to Ibrox Stadium. Gough said: “Ibrox is the spiritual home of our great club but also to many thousands of fans. The fans should march to safeguard out home and quite rightly ask for the legal assurances from the board.” (Daily Record)

Efe Ambrose says that he’s always raring to go

Efe Ambrose drew no distinction between playing against France in the World Cup or Icelandic minnows KR Reykjavik in a Champions League qualifier after again merging one season almost seamlessly into another.

After only a fortnight’s break and only a couple of training sessions under new Celtic manager Ronny Deila, the 25-year-old was pitched into the first leg of the club’s Champions League second qualifier against KR Reykjavik in Iceland on Tuesday night. “It was difficult,” said Ambrose, “but at the same time you have to respect everyone you play against in football these days.

Championship title will be for Jardine - McCulloch

Rangers’ Championship title will be a tribute to Sandy Jardine, captain Lee McCulloch has said. After announcing the Govan Stand would be renamed after the Rangers legend - who passed away earlier this year - the club was praised by McCulloch for its gesture. He said: “He was a winner as a player and his personality certainly rubbed off on me and alot of the older players, while hopefully the younger players can be inspired by him. The club has paid him a great tribute and now we’ll be looking to win the Championship for him.” (Daily Express)

Hibs manager Alan Stubbs wants quality, not quantity

Alan Stubbs has said the relatively small size of Hibernian’s trimmed down squad could galvanise their campaign to clamber out of the Championship. Fourteen players have left Easter Road in the transfer window, but Stubbs has drawn inspiration from former Everton manager David Moyes.

“We can use it to our advantage,” Stubbs said. “I had a similar experience at Everton when we qualified for the Champions League - we had a small squad and people were writing us off.”

He added: “It’s about keeping everyone fit but whatever squad size we go with this season, it will be a number that can compete.” (Daily Record)
