Blue Pitch chief wants controlling interest in Rangers

BEIRUT-BASED lawyer Mazen Houssami, who helped fund Charles Green’s £5.5 million Ibrox takeover two years ago, is actively trying to buy a controlling interest in Rangers.

The Middle East money man behind Rangers investors Blue Pitch insisted that rather than cut his losses by selling his 6.14 per cent holding to a would-be saviour such as Dave King, he is preparing to snap up more shares in a bid to have a greater say in how the club are run.

Houssami said: “I am happy for Blue Pitch to invest more money in Rangers because I believe in the club. I am hoping today to buy more shares and to become the biggest majority or to get a more substantial minority to be able to control or to influence the decision a bit more.” (Daily Record)

Boyd on his way back to Rangers

KRIS Boyd has agreed to return to Rangers.

The 30-year-old out-of-contract Kilmarnock star, who scored more than 100 goals in his first spell at Rangers, will team up again with Kenny Miller, who has returned for his third spell with the Ibrox club.

Rangers were able to beat financial offers from Premiership outfits Aberdeen and Dundee United, and the Scotland international move was sealed when he met manager Ally McCoist after the Ibrox boss flew in from his holiday yesterday afternoon. (Daily Express)

Deila won’t live in ‘chaos’ of Glasgow

RONNY Deila has revealed he’s giving the “chaos” of Glasgow a wide berth as he begins life at Celtic.

The Parkhead boss admitted he won’t live in the city as he prepares to meet his new players for the first time at Lennoxtown today.

“I’m not going to stay in the city, I’d rather stay outside so I can choose if I want to be part of the chaos or not. I haven’t been in the streets as I’ve been working on other things but I won’t have a problem with that. When you’re Celtic manager, you’re Celtic manager 24 hours a day. (Daily Record)

Jackson backs Stubbs at Hibs

FORMER Celtic and Hibs player Darren Jackson believes straight-talking Scouser Alan Stubbs is the man to lift the Easter Road club out of their slump.

Jackson, who was a team-mate of Stubbs at Parkhead in the 1990s, said: “Stubbsy is a great appointment. He’s a real leader.

“When things weren’t going well at Celtic he wasn’t slow in letting himself be heard. We had disagreements but that’s not a bad thing in football. We’d walk off the park and be the best pals again. That’s something the Hibs players will find out - the standards he expects on a day-to-day basis.” (Daily Record)

First woman coach quits

HELENA Costa, the first woman to coach a senior professional team in Europe, has decided to quit before taking charge of French club Clermont.

The former Celtic scout caused a media stir when her appointment was made last month.

But yesterday the Ligue 2 club’s president Claude Michy said: “Helena Costa has decided not to keep her commitments to Clermont and she will therefore not be the club’s coach next season. This is a sad and disappointing decision.”
